Screencast 2
1. What standard(s)/outcome(s) are being met?

1 A. Identification, selection, installation and maintenance of technology infrastructure, and hardware and software applications for school administration and instruction.

1 B. Integrating technology into curricular planning and instructional design.

1 C. Management and administration of technology programs at the building, district and regional levels.

2. Identify 1-3 elements of the artifact and explain why/how they demonstrate mastery.

Once parents and students were able to access Envision math online, they quickly started to explore the additional functions of the website. One of the most popular requests parents had was that they wanted to be able to print resources from Envision online. Unfortunately, Envision did not plan for any of their resources to be in print-friendly form. They did however make a sister site called Dash, that hosts the same resources in an interactive format with downloadable and printable PDF resources. The district math committee came to me, and wanted to know if I could edit my previous screencast. Instead, I offered to make another screencast walking through the procedures of accessing the sister site Dash, and printing resources. I knew that this was what parents were looking for, so I quickly went to work. Once the screencast was finished, I shared it with all of the district administrators, assistant superintendent, and curriculum director to share with their teachers and cross post on their respective web sites.

3. How does, will, or could the content of this artifact benefit your instructional audience or professional community?

The creation of this new screencast benefits my school community by opening the door to an instructional resource that was otherwise unavailable to the community. Dash contains thousands of printable practice sheets, assessments, vocabulary words, and instructional aides that hundreds of parents and students in school district did not know how to access. Additionally, several staff members did not know this resource was available either because there was never any training issued to teachers in any of the online components of our Math program. This instructional screencast will assist any staff member that would like to further their own professional development in the area of math instruction using technology.

4.  Reflection: What did you learn from the experience when you created the artifact or took the course?

I learned that screencasts can be very effective tools in communicating with families. I had no idea the extent my first screencast had been shared until I started receiving requests for more help. It made me feel proud to know that the time I took to make the first screencast had helped so many parents and students. I was very eager to make this second screencast to help the professional community even more.
