Strategic Planning Committee

1. What standard(s)/outcome(s) are being met?

3 C. Collaborating with school colleagues to enhance student, teacher and administrative capabilities and improve student learning.

2. Identify 1-3 elements of the artifact and explain why/how they demonstrate mastery.

In January, 2015, I volunteered to serve as a committee member for my school district's next Comprehensive Strategic Plan. As part of the state's requirements, needs had to be assessed before the school district could build goals or set action plans. I was asked by my administration if I would have any interest, and I volunteered to serve as a subcommittee member for student achievement. We met several times throughout the 2015 school year during the evenings and even into the summer before the plan was finished.

3. How does, will, or could the content of this artifact benefit your instructional audience or professional community?

This artifact benefited my professional community by assessing the needs of the most recent Comprehensive Strategic Plan that expired at the end of 2015. Once the needs were assessed, we reviewed the progress we made towards are preexisting goals and built new goals for the next three years. Once we set the new goals, we wrote up an action plan to benefit the students, staff, and professional learning community as a whole. Our new   Comprehensive Strategic Plan is in effect for the years 2016-2019.

4.  Reflection: What did you learn from the experience when you created the artifact or took the course?

I learned a great deal from the experience this artifact relates to. First, I felt a great deal of pride that the school district asked if I would be interested in participating with the plan. When I joined the committee, I was surprised by how many people had come together to collaborate. There were teachers from the elementary, middle, and high school levels, parents, board members, and administrators all working together as a team. I learned that amazing things can be accomplished when people put their minds together.  It was inspiring to see such talent pull together in one place and work together towards a common goal.
